A Day In The Life May Include:
Electrical
Manage electrical capital projects through budgets, schedule and execution
Identify, review, create, and implement procedures and maintenance plans for medium and low voltage electrical equipment including cables, 480V switch gear, electrical breakers, back-up power supplies, and electrical motors
Identify electrical upgrade needs to be compliant with current electrical codes
Work with project managers, design contractors, and vendors to develop scopes of work and support capital projects
Assist operators, mechanics, and engineers in troubleshooting equipment failures
Participate in root cause analysis to evaluate causes of equipment failures
Provide electrical support during planned plant outages
Instrumentation and Controls
Understand key performance metrics for instrumentation that drives instrument reliability to optimize product quality and yield.
Assist in designing and evaluating instrumentation and safety systems for reliable and safe operations that is in accord with applicable codes and standards such as (ISA 84, NFPA 70E, National Electrical Code)
Work closely with project managers, design engineers, and instrument vendors to develop scope of work for instrumentation and process control
Support plants with the installation and maintenance of instrumentation during plant shutdowns
Participate with Root Cause Analysis teams to identify and eliminate instrumentation that impacts plant and instrument reliability
Drive safety and compliance through the standardization of instrument calibration and maintenance
Improve operation of process control through managing local controllers and process control tuning
Power Distribution
Participate in hazardous area classification study for project; ensures study results are available, current, and consistent across business
Protective relay coordination, arc flash study/labels, and installed electrical equipment for proper classification use
Participate in implementation of assigned electrical projects
Participate in recovery response to unplanned outages of electrical systems
Leads planning and execution of offline electrical testing
Participate in root cause failure analysis on electrical failures; shares feedback across business
Process
Actively involved in the day to day operation of a process unit, troubleshooting and incident investigations
Monitor and assist plant leadership in management of chemical process plant operations to improve reliability, efficiency and capacity while ensuring compliance with standards and regulations associated with site operations
Optimize availability and utilization of process equipment at lowest life cycle cost
Support the design and implementation of capital projects
Participates in root cause failure analysis of operating problems
Project Management
Lead and direct projects and coordinate key functions with internal and external technical resources to meet all project requirements for safety, budget, schedule, functionality and quality; meeting or exceeding company and industry standards and expectations.
Develop and implement definitive project plans which include risk assessed cost estimates, engineering design, contracting strategies, fabrication and construction, quality assurance, pre-commissioning and commissioning, and project closure to complete projects safely, on time, on budget and with satisfactory quality and functionality.
Additional responsibilities include project reporting and cost tracking / forecasting in conjunction with project controls and reporting to senior management
Reliability
Focus on projects related to design, construction, maintenance, reliability, and integrity of facilities, including project management
Assist in all phases of reliability engineering, including mechanical engineering support to production and auxiliary equipment
Participate in equipment design, installation and evaluation, as well as support ongoing group activities
Monitor performance and execute daily projects to optimize the availability and utilization of process equipment at the lowest life cycle cost
Provide technical support on process machinery, including compressors (centrifugal, reciprocating and rotary), steam turbines, pumps (centrifugal, positive displacement)
Participate in root cause analysis
