The Computational Biology group of the Clinical Biomarkers & Diagnostics (CBD) department at Amgen is looking for a highly motivated summer intern graduate student pursuing a degree in quantitative disciplines. This role will operate within a multi-disciplinary setting, working closely with assay validation, biomarker scientists, computational biology, data scientists to establish standards, infrastructure and process for the ingestion and QC of biomarker data. 

Basic Qualifications 

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time master’s or PhD Degree program from an accredited colleague or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
  • Possess U.S. citizenship, permanent legal residence, or unrestricted work authorization in the U.S. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a MS or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline such as computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, or compute science with bioinformatics experience
  • Strong experience with Python and R and aware of good programming practices
  • Experience in Python and/or R associated data-processing and machine-learning frameworks
  • Experience with next generation sequencing (NGS) based omics technologies
  • Experience with clinical trial datasets & diagnostics and familiar with verbiage and meanings of data entities in the context of clinical trials
  • Experience with handling on clinical metadata as well as analytes
  • Ability to thrive in a high-performance culture
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management, decision-making and organizational skills
  • Ability to apply research findings, capture information, interpret and analyze results, develop and implement a logical and strategic plan of action
  • Strong project management skills, proficiency in logistic planning from beginning to end, priority setting, timely delivery of results, and multi-tasking
  • Ability to work independently and with ambiguity
  • strong technical use of Microsoft Suite
