Its talented corps of Imagineers is responsible for the creation - from concept initiation through installation - of all Disney Resorts, theme parks and attractions, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, and new media projects.

What we’re looking for…
A Sustainable Design & Engineering intern to work with the Master Planning Studio which is part of WDI Environmental Design & Engineering. This Studio provides the comprehensive and long-term planning services that educate, inform, and guide our domestic business partners and global portfolio leaders. We craft the most creative, efficient, and strategic realization of the Company's land resource assets worldwide, supporting and guiding the Company's continually evolving long term Menu and Master Planning process. 


You will… 
This position is for short-term, full-time employment as an intern in WDI Master Planning in Glendale, CA. This position will be primarily responsible for assisting with sustainable design integration within WDI, including supporting projects in identifying and evaluating sustainability-related technologies. This role requires applying sustainability science to decision making to ensure ongoing improvement of the environmental impacts of the products we design, build, and operate.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Broad understanding of sustainable design and the multi-disciplinary nature of sustainability
  • Experience in energy and/or environmental economics
  • Ability to analyze and translate complex environmental findings (waste, water resources management, climate change and renewable energy) into common sense communications
  • Willingness to conduct extensive research and experiment creatively to find solutions and recognize when re-direction is required
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Proficient in data science and analytics
  • Proficient in data analytics tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
  • Proficient in Apple Keynote and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to create effective presentations and deliver them to diverse audiences with differing communication styles
  • Self-starter with positive attitude and strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic computer programming knowledge and ability to quickly learn new software tools
  • Experience using 3D modeling software (e.g. SketchUp, SolidWorks, Revit, AutoCAD)
  • Experience using energy modeling software
  • Experience performing environmental life-cycle assessments (LCA) and financial life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA)
  • Experience using LCA tools (e.g. GaBi, SimaPro, openLCA)
  • Ability to perform LCA and LCCA in more than one product area, particularly of complex or diverse systems
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)

Required Education

Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher, or graduated within the past 6 months, from an accredited college/university, earning a degree majoring in a scientific, engineering, economics, environmental studies or architecture field.

Internship Eligibility: 

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within the past 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)

Program Length:

The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2018 through January 2019. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
