Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems' Facilities and Real Estate organization has an opening for a College Intern to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Palmdale, CA. The chosen intern will work on planning, designing and overseeing the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities. They will also gather and review data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility.

In particular, candidate would be responsible for being interested in and able to perform at least one (1) of the following roles:

  • Space Planning: Develops creative, tactical, and strategic solutions and facilities plans. Interprets aspects of facilities space and infrastructure requirements. Utilize facilities planning, analyzing, estimating, and coordination skills to be able to optimize space allocations for facilities.
  • Project Engineering: Coordinates with Facilities teams and architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Assists in planning, engineering reviews, procurement, and execution management for new construction and building renovation projects. Compile schedules, cost forecasts, and report on progress of projects to various internal stakeholders. Supports the preparation of bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition.
  • Reliability Engineering: Assists in the review of design documents/drawings, equipment submittals, statements of work, and other related documents. Supports inspections of construction and installations to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules. Troubleshoot equipment and larger systems to determine the risk of failure and/or to understand issues experienced by the users. Perform root-cause analysis of failures that relate to facilities infrastructure equipment/systems.

Basic Qualifications:

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2020.
  • Be majoring in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree.
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile).
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.75/4.0 or higher.
  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2019.
