Description

Amazon Early Insights is a three-day program that provides women in their early years of undergraduate study with the opportunity to attend talks and workshops delivered by Amazon Software Engineers.

Students will hear from experts working on projects that benefit Amazon customers around the world with the eventual aim of participating in a two-day hackathon. This is a unique chance to collaborate with Amazon employees and fellow participants to create something new.

This is the perfect opportunity to find out more about Amazon, get unrivalled access to Amazon’s engineers and inventors and most importantly, develop your software engineering skills! You will be able to build your contacts by meeting both Amazon employees and other like-minded students currently studying similar courses to you.

This year, Amazon Early Insights will be held in two locations, Edinburgh & London! This is the Amazon Early Insights application page for the London event which will be held at Amazon's UK head office in Principal Place (City of London) between 7 - 9th April 2020.

Reasonable domestic travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed.

The Early Insights program originated in 2017 and aims to increase gender diversity in technology by enabling female engineering students in their early years of study to develop a network of women in technology, learn about Amazon’s business and determine if they would be interested in a career in technology. Applications for employment with Amazon are considered equally on their merits regardless of gender.

Am I eligible to apply?

You must identify as a female student, currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, informatics or a closely related technical field at an accredited university and due to graduate in summer of 2022 or 2023. You should be curious about computing and have a good academic record. We accept applicants that are over 18 years old and are from the UK or the European Economic Area (EEA) region, and non-EEA students provided that you have, or can obtain the rights to work and travel to the UK. Sadly, we cannot organize VISAs on your behalf at this time.

What does Amazon expect from me?

In alignment with the Amazon motto, we want you to “work hard, have fun, make history”. Expect to be challenged in a friendly environment and collaborate with other smart, female engineering students on building an exciting project during the three-day hack. Our full-time staff will provide coaching and support along the way. You do not have to have experience in participating in hackathons; knowing the basics of at least one high level programming language (such as Java or Python) is enough.
