The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Scope/purpose of position:

As part of an engineering team, you will utilize fundamental understanding to complete assigned projects to support division engineering at the Canton manufacturing plant. 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • While participating in a team environment, own key objectives critical to assigned project success.
  • Collaborate with various engineering and operations groups to understand potential impact of product equipment and process changes. Ensure communication is established to address concerns and obtain assistance/consensus.
  • Review performance data on processes/findings and effectively draw conclusions.
  • Give recommendation for improvements, present findings, and document work.

 Education and experience

  • Seeking a minimum of completed sophomore year Bachelors degree candidate in Chemical or Mechanical engineering
  • GPA of 3.2 or above
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint and Solidworks a plus

Travel:

  • Small amount of travel to attend corporate intern events in Corning, NY. Opportunity to travel to vendors will be at the discretion of the project team.
