Our company's Pharmaceutical Sciences organization is responsible for translating a therapeutic agent into a functional drug product optimized for patients. The departments in Rahway, NJ, West Point, PA, South San Francisco, CA, and Boston, MA are seeking summer interns who will work collaboratively in a team environment to help solve key challenges in formulation development and manufacturing.
The Pharmaceutical Sciences organization currently has several exciting internship opportunities available in the development of oral, sterile, and specialty (inhaled, implantable) pharmaceutical products including both small molecule and biologics. We are currently looking for candidates in the following areas.
- Formulation: Responsible for designing and developing pharmaceutical products. Primary duties to support both early and late stage development candidates will include screening and developing robust drug product composition, developing scalable process and defining primary packaging.
- Preformulation: Responsible for supporting drug product formulation development utilizing state of the art physical characterization tools and techniques to understand the complex interplay of formulation composition and process on product performance.
- Analytical: Responsible for executing analytical activities to enable successful product development including key areas such as analytical method development, stability data interpretation, specification setting.
- Operations: Responsible for the timely delivery of drug supply in support of clinical research and product/process development via the Pharmaceutical Sciences internal pilot plants, development facilities, external vendors and our company's commercial assets.
- Biopharmaceutics: Responsible for developing mechanistic understanding of drug absorption via various routes of administration and biopharmaceutics strategy for formulation-pharmacokinetic bridging in all clinical stages of drug product development
- Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences: Multidisciplinary research group that provides drug delivery, solid state and solution chemistry tools in Drug Discovery and Early Development.
- Device Development: Responsible for discovering, developing and commercializing superior DPI, MDI, Nasal and Parenteral medical delivery devices supporting biologics and small molecules requiring challenging and unique delivery routes.
We are seeking intern candidates at all levels with strong academic performance, communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work in a multi- functional environment. The interns will participate in departmental and project team meetings to provide a broad perspective on the drug development process in the pharmaceutical industry. The interns will have the opportunity to build a working knowledge of physicochemical and mechanical characterization techniques, device development, and/or drug product manufacturing. In addition, the intern student will have an opportunity to present their research results in both oral and written formats.
Required Education and Experience:
- Candidates must be a currently enrolled undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior student pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemistry or engineering OR a currently enrolled graduate student pursuing a master's degree or PhD in pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, analytical chemistry, or engineering.
- Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) consecutive weeks beginning in May or June of 2020.
- Candidates must have completed at least (2) years of studies toward bachelor’s degree by June 2020.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and research experience, such as: electronic notebook recording, HPLC, spectroscopy, analytical techniques, and safe lab practices.
- Device candidates should have basic knowledge in CAD and/or SolidWorks, engineering design, statistics, and material science.
- Clinical operations candidates should have experience utilizing Minitab, and certification in Six Sigma is a plus but not required.
- Candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
