AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Intern for employment in the Austin, TX office. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive. The laboratory intern will assist in the execution of bench-scale studies related to soil/groundwater remediation and water/wastewater treatment.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.

  • Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study

  • Intern 1 – completion of first year of qualified study

Minimum Requirements

  • AA/AS (US) + None or Diploma/Certification (Canada) + None

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in chemistry, environmental science/engineering or life-sciences OR Currently pursuing a graduate degree in chemistry, environmental science/engineering or life-sciences

  • Experience in working in a laboratory environment

  • Knowledge of best laboratory practices

  • Basic knowledge of chemistry and microbiology principles

  • Basic knowledge of hazardous materials/waste handling

  • Knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel)

  • Ability to follow detailed protocols and document laboratory activities

  • Experience conducting research: experimental design and setup, data entry and plotting

  • Experience working with a fume-hood and handling of volatile organic compounds

  • Experience working with an anaerobic chamber

  • Experience working with bacteria cultures

  • Knowledge on soil and geotechnical principles

  • Experience working with analytical instrumentation:

  • Gas Chromatography

  • UV-VIS

  • pH/ORP/DO
