Electro-migration in modern day electronics has been studied for many decades. Therefore, it is well known that the parameters that affect electro-migration include conductor composition, conductor pretreatment, substrate composition, conductor configuration, electrical bias, conductor spacing, humidity, electrolytes/electrical conductivity, gaseous pollutants, ambient air velocity, and temperature. However, many of these studies have been performed at 600 V or less.
SiC power modules have been commercially available for several years now in the 900 V – 1700 V range and have demonstrated feasibility at 3.3 kV, 6.5 kV, 10 kV, and 20 kV. Thus, it is imperative that electro-migration effects are studied at 600 V and beyond in more detail with common materials that are used to build next generation SiC power modules.
Wolfspeed-Fayetteville is seeking candidates for a summer intern program with a basic understanding of electronics packaging processes, equipment, and testing. This position is a part of Wolfspeed-Fayetteville’s Modules Engineering group. Therefore, the applicant would ideally understand some of the core areas the make-up electronics packaging including: basic electronics, material science, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, semiconductor device physics, and electric circuit theory to name a few.
