The Housing Research & Delivery Team, operating within the Environment business at AECOM, specialises in supporting community groups and local authorities to build the intelligence they need to develop relevant and effective policies supporting the delivery of sustainable housing in locations across the country. We also have a growing list of private sector clients for whom we provide critical intelligence to inform how they approach development and work with local stakeholders.Candidate profile

You should have an awareness of the UK planning system and the issues affecting housing delivery in the UK. Strong verbal and written communication skills are important, as are an interest in research skills and working closely with other members of a multi-disciplinary team.
We are currently seeking an intern to assist us in the delivery of a growing and varied programme of housing-related work. Over a four-month period you will be supported to become skilled in a range of technical tasks and activities including data analytics, report writing and collaborative working. You will also have the opportunity to join us in the delivery of a mixed portfolio of projects. Work portfolios are managed to ensure you experience both breadth and depth of project opportunities. Day to day tasks will include:
Working closely with more senior consultants, to learn about, and then support other consultants in the production of Housing Needs Asssessments for a wide variety of neighbourhood planning groups in urban and rural areas.
Contributing to the design of research methodologies to support housing delivery studies for public and private sector clients in order to further Local Plan making and promote development schemes through the planning system;
Designing and undertaking community engagement activities from time to time, sometimes involving out of hours work;
Supporting the development and marketing of our work with housing associations, private developers, local authorities and neighbourhood planning groups. This will include preparing marketing material; placing telephone calls; assembling bids; liaising with clients and organising project teams;
Contributing to the wider work of the Environment, Urban Design and Plan-Making Teams, particularly in terms of planning policy, housing and regeneration issues.
In addition, the candidate will be asked from time to time to arrange meetings and conference calls; undertake research activities; proof-read documents; meet and greet clients and business partners; take notes and minutes at meetings and provide support to the team in all aspects of project delivery.

Holding or working towards a higher qualification in housing, planning or a related discipline within the social sciences;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in numeracy and quantitative analysis;
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel; and
Ability to download and interrogate data sets.
Please note this position is a part time internship - 20 hrs per week for a minimum 4 month period
