In this position you will contribute in a small team to develop customer and user insights, define most critical areas to improve, ideate possible solutions, build and test conceptual prototypes and document the entire journey. This team will focus on user and customer experiences that are present today and relevant in the near future with connected, autonomous and electric vehicles. The focus is beyond the actual vehicle, considering an integrated product-service-system. The core team will be placed in the SF Bay Area and will collaborate with Volvo Group colleagues in North America and Sweden. The summer internship period starts early June and ends in the end of August, exact dates are flexible based on your school year calendar.

Core Responsibilities

  • Use design thinking methodology to create insight, define opportunity area, ideate solutions, build conceptual prototypes and test, and then iterate
  • Develop and build prototypes to explore user experience and functionality of concepts. Prototypes are to be evaluated together with user and customers
  • Document the learning journey and report the progress

Skills and Knowledge
A person in this position must have a degree in engineering and an entrepreneurial personality. Furthermore we are looking for a student with a “maker” personality, with a background in programming and/or building as a hobby. We are also expecting these internship students to be self-motivating, curious and brave. We are exploring new possibilities in a highly uncertain area, no requirement specifications are available and no well-defined processes are available. Luckily there is a team that will work closely together to drive progress.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a Master degree within Engineering at an accredited school
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
