In their quest to change the ball-game, IBM South Africa has launched the Start-Up Enterprise Development Programme to support SMMEs and techpreneurs who are passionate about moving up the ICT services value chain, but don’t have the financial support and/or infrastructure to do so. In partnership with Raizcorp, IBM has launched a 12-month business development and entrepreneurial growth Start-Up programme that offers techpreneurs the chance to scale up their businesses in order to be disruptive and innovative. Criteria to join the programme: Have a registered and active company Preference will be given to enterprises that have a minimum of 30% black women ownership The applicant cannot currently be a beneficiary of another enterprise development programme (e.g. Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, etc.) The applicant cannot be a subsidiary of nor part of a group where the existing majority ownership is a white-owned IT business If the applicant has a direct or indirect business relationship in any manner or form with an IBM competitor, it must be disclosed and reviewed The applicant cannot be in a direct or indirect business relationship in any manner or form with an IBM competitor Where the applicant has a white minority shareholder, such shareholder has to pass an IBM due diligence including a conflict of interest check, IBM competitor affiliation, etc. The applicant may not be insolvent, sequestrated, an unrehabilitated insolvent nor in business rescue The applicant (senior managers, shareholders, etc. representing the company) must not have a criminal record The applicant cannot be on the US Export Regulations Denied Parties list The applicant’s revenue should be less than R20 million per annum Applicant should have an aptitude for selected EDP focus areas (cloud computing; business analytics and optimisation; mobile technologies; social computing and security) Applicant should be in a position to create jobs within the South African market Successful candidates will have passed the IBM selection criteria Preferential access will be granted to graduate (from Aspiring Entrepreneurs Stream) qualifying EMEs and QSEs if a proven market has been established.
