Scope of position  (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): This internship will offer you a dynamic opportunity to explore a career in our Research, Development or Engineering teams in an industrial environment. You will join our creative team of specialists who strive to make a difference in innovation and dedicated markets. You will have the opportunity to be a key contributor on a project that will improve Corning’s and their own fundamental knowledge of materials and processes. You will network with dedicated subject experts in your area of study and build relationships for the future. At the end of the summer, you will document the results of your work and give a presentation to share your findings and insights.  Day to day responsibilities: Work and collaborate with Engineers, Scientists and other specialists in Advanced Development -Design lab prototypes of Mechanical and Opto-Mechanical systems Assemble, build, and trouble shoot prototype hardware and software Characterize, optimize and document prototype performance Collect proof-of-concept data using controlled laboratory experiments  Travel requirements:  We do not anticipate travel  Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours/week Flexibility with start / end times  Education and Experience  (minimum required for consideration): A minimum of completing third year of Bachelor's of Science program, Masters or PhD program in Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.  Required skills: Basic CAD skills in SolidWorks or similar software Basic numerical modeling of physical systems skills using FEA Hands on laboratory experience Ability to conduct laboratory experiments (safety, design, data collection and analysis)  Desired Skills: Able to work independently and as part of our larger multidisciplinary team Expert in numerical modeling Experience with CAM Experience with MatLab and/or Python  Soft Skills  (Communication/Teams/Leadership): Strong communication and presentation skills Ability to work in a diverse environment  This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
