DEADLINE : August 1,2018 AMOUNT : $5,000 Science - Geosciences Description The Tiger Scholarship Endowment in the Department of Geosciences was established through generous contributions from Ken and Karen Evans. The scholarship is intended to help recruit the very best and brightest Geosciences students to the University of Arizona College of Science. The Tiger Scholarship Endowment Fund is a merit based award and is named after the long-time mascot of ExxonMobil Corporation, the company where Ken Evans worked for over 36 years. Eligibility Tiger scholarship applicants are eligible only if they meet all the following criteria: The Tiger Scholarship Endowment Fund is intended to be combined with any other merit-based award the recipient is eligible to receive (National Merit, etc.) Applicant must be a U.S. citizen. Applicant must be accepted to the University of Arizona as an undergraduate student who is eligible for the highest merit-based scholarship awards at the University of Arizona. Applicants entering as freshmen are eligible for the Tiger Scholarship ONLY if they attend a high school that ranks its graduating class and applicant must have graduated in the top 1% of his/her high school. High school class size must exceed 100 students. Applicants are expected to provide evidence of meeting these criteria. If an entering freshman candidate is not found, the award may be offered to a student transferring into Geosciences from another university or department in his/her first four semesters at the University of Arizona. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership qualities in the school and the community—athletics, clubs, extra-curricular activities, charitable organizations, volunteering, etc. Applicants will provide evidence of this criterion. Applicants must be eligible for the University of Arizona Honors College and meet all Honors College criteria. In addition, applicants must enroll in a bachelor’s degree program in the Department of Geosciences in the College of Science. Applicants must have demonstrated personal financial responsibility for their education though summer jobs, part-time work, etc. Applicants will provide evidence of this criterion. Applicant must provide a personal statement of his/her goals and objectives for studying geosciences at the University of Arizona.
