Seagate is seeking a high-energy, collaborative analytical chemist, chemical engineer, or materials science engineer for a summer internship at our facility in Longmont, Colorado. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a global team in the US and Asia. The function of this role is to evaluate new and existing materials to ensure that we deliver the highest quality components and materials to our Customers. The Materials Science intern will work with Product Design Engineering, our suppliers, product development teams, and factory personnel to validate component designs and materials are suitable for volume manufacturing and align with our long-term reliability targets. A Day in the Life May Include: Evaluating new materials for use in the disc drive Qualifying disc drive components manufactured by our suppliers according to company standards About You: You are a self-motivated individual You are successfully able to work in a team environment You have excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple demands You can thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment You are willing and able to learn and apply project management skills You are willing and able to learn how to write engineering reports and presentations You are willing and able to learn and apply design of experiments Your Experience Includes: Working in a chemical laboratory including excellent ability to handle hazmat chemicals Strong knowledge of chemical hygiene and good lab practices Work with organic and inorganic trace contaminants analysis Ability to interpret spectroscopy data from Mass Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and others Good understanding of engineering principles Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry - Analytical Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering and returning to school in Fall 2020. You May Also Have: Pursuing a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry - Analytical Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering and returning to school in Fall 2020.
